West Shore’s Learn to Skate Program is for all kids and adults interested in becoming a hockey player, figure skater or just want to skate and have fun on the ice. Learn to Skate teaches the "FUNdamentals" of skating from the first steps and glides on the ice through more advanced skills. Learn to Skate levels are appropriate for all skaters—recreational, hockey, and future figure skaters. Skaters looking for more advanced instruction in hockey or figure skating are invited to join either our West Shore Wolves Hockey program or our West Shore Aspire Figure Skating program.
Sessions follow the Learn to Skate USA curriculum and run approximately 8-weeks each. Learn to Skate Instructors are all members, accredited, background checked, and experienced with the Learn to Skate USA Program.
CLASS STRUCTURE
Learn to Skate group classes include a 30 minute instructor led class followed by 20 minutes of skater led practice, private lesson time, or game time.
SKATES
All skaters must have skates. Figure or hockey skates are acceptable. Skate rental is available from the rink.
WHAT TO WEAR
Comfortable, warm clothing–long pants, gloves or mittens, jackets; a helmet or other protective headgear if you wish; thin socks–high enough to cover the top of skating boots.
EVALUATIONS
Evaluations will be assessed during the last two weeks of each session with recommendations for re-registration levels.
PRIVATE LESSONS
Private Lessons can supplement group classes and are given on LTS Practice Ice or Open Figure Skate time. For information on private lessons please contact us at WestShoreLTS@yahoo.com
